Description
Wells Cathedral was originally built in the 13th century. The tower was heightened but following a minor earthquake, the walls started to crack in the 1400s, so they braced it with the elegant 'scissor arches' or 'strainer arches' that have become a characteristic feature of the building.
The 'Early English' façade shown here houses a total of more than 300 statues in niches.
